Charity tipping permits
Charities in Greater Manchester can apply for a free permit to take donated household goods they cannot reuse or sell to their local recycling centre.
Already have a permit? Sign in to renew it, sign your Duty of Care notes or update your details.
Who can apply
Your charity can apply if it:
- holds a valid charity number, registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales or with HMRC
- has premises in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside or Trafford
- holds a valid waste carrier licence
- takes only donated household goods that cannot be reused or resold, and separates its recycling
Places of worship and community groups are not included in this scheme. Please contact your council for advice.
What you need to apply
- your registered charity number
- the premises address and postcode
- your waste carrier licence number (it starts CBD)
- the registration of every vehicle that takes waste to the site
It takes about 10 minutes. You can create your account as you apply.
How it works
-
Step 1: Apply online
Tell us about the charity, the premises, the waste carrier, your vehicles and the waste you take. You sign the Duty of Care notes as you apply.
-
Step 2: GMCA and your council review
GMCA check the application first, then your council approves it. They may ask you for more information.
-
Step 3: Suez complete the paperwork
Suez, the waste contractor, set up your account and complete the Duty of Care notes.
-
Step 4: Your permit is emailed
Your permit and papers are emailed to you and kept on the service. Permits last a year, and we remind you when it is time to renew.
Most applications are decided within 10 working days.
